Speaking of skills, if you want to talk about someone who has picked up hobbies and skills in her life, I immediately think of my mother. She was an amateur beauty pageant contestant, ice skater, calligrapher, and family historian. She helped reinforce the message of hard work to us kids by cleaning houses to earn some extra money and to help comfort women who needed comforting. My mother was endlessly dynamic until Multiple Sclerosis took her balance, then her strength, and finally her health. She has been living with MS for 22 years! Every day is a new challenge.
Both of my parents taught us kids important lessons about fidelity, hard work, doing what's right, and perseverance. Both of my parents are wise, loving, and good. If it is true that we eventually become our parents, I am not worried about what the future holds for my small family.
